My anecdote

Please don't leave me.
I'm
Gabriel a very happy person. I'm laughing all the time because I can't stand
the routine and boring people. But this year was kind of special, because in the
pre-intermediate English course I met a new partner of jokes.
This girl
is Alejandra, but we are going to call her "Ale", she is not very
tall, but she has a marvelous brown long hair, big brown eyes that I used to
call "Fried frog eyes" a mixed name between Frog eyes and Fried egg
eyes.... because they are really BIG, but everything is with love.
Well, as
you see, we spend our time doing silly things. But one of those days, doing
crazy things everywhere at University, we started to speak loud to each other
instead of speak normal.... and in a corridor, we had a really funny fight....
We were
walking and she was laughing about me, so I stopped, I looked at her extremely
serious, and I said “Shut up and leave!”
As a joke and in the same way she walked away, turned around and she
said to me, too loud “OK, I going, but you are going to miss me!!!” So I looked at her ... I kept silence and I
started singing “PERDOOOOOOOOONAME PERDONAMEEE" intensely ... actually I
was screaming. But the funny thing about all of this was when suddenly we
noticed that everybody was watching this kind of circus, because we were in the
middle of a circle of people watching our dramatic scene. And OMG it was super
embarrassing. We run against a wall and we tried to hide our faces and someone
said “your face is red” and the wall was white so we looked as Christmas
Decoration.
It was the
worst experience ever, but actually is a good memory, we had a lot, and only in
a couple of months. Now we are not classmates anymore, but I hope that really
soon we can have classes together.
I had terrible problems uploading the audio, so if you want it, ask me for it!!
Sorry for posting too late.
RACE AGAINST TIME!
RACE AGAINST TIME
Let me tell
you a brief story, if you are into happy ending stories, this is something you
wouldn’t like to hear , so turn it off right now. But if you area little more realistic, or at least you suspect
that most of the time real stories doesn’t have a happy ending , listen
carefully. This is one of these story, that when happened you may think “maybe
in the future , I will remember it , and it will be a funny memory. Why not?.
But no yet, it is still a little
frustrated to remember.
It supposed
I will have an English test on this day ,I never get ill
, actually I´ve not gotten sick since last year, but just the day before the test I
got really sick ; I had a terrible fever
and my whole body was hurting. as
you may guess , I didn’t attend to my previous lesson ( the pain was bigger
than me), so I decided to sleep a few hours more and after that I came out of
bed just in time to go to the university ( I live 40 minutes from the
university).
It was a
cold day, and as usually I cross out this kind of little bridge to get to the
bus stop, which is about 10 minutes from my flat. I got on the 211 bus, just few people came into , it didn’t
surprise me, the driver was quite rude
and fat, also he was driving too fast, when suddenly the bus wheels exploited in the middle of an
unknown hill , full petty houses , some of them even hidden
on the top of the hill. So, the driver obeyed us to got down from the bus
while he was yelling loudly at the machine. in that moment I just taught,” oh
my goodness, why the hell this kind of things always happen me?”. Thanks god the driver gave us
back the money we had paid for the ticket. All I could do in this moment was to
wait for another bus, and pray god not to arrive late.
All in all,after 15
minutes waiting, other bus came but when I was close to the university , the
bus needed to stop, because the pavement was being repaired and it was just one way for both senses .
At that
point of the morning, I felt like things couldn’t worsen. Finally I arrived at the university ,
15 minutes late, and as you may know and guess i couldn’t finished the test, and I failed it.
At that
point of the day, everything I needed was someone who makes my day.

Watch out: there are dogs here
Hello everyone, this is the craziest anecdote that I can tell. I hope you enjoy it. See you in class :)

I remember one day that I was with my boyfriend and
some friends walking along the beach and enjoying a great summer day in “Rocas
de Santo Domingo” when suddenly we saw a huge land with houses in there that
immediately caught our attention.
This land was very strange: it was completely uninhabited
and has no fence to protect the place. This fact caused a very creepy feeling
on me, I was scared but everybody else wanted to go in there only to see what
was all about. So we decided to come into the place, trying to forget all the horror
movies that I had watched before.
When we were finally in there, nothing odd happened.
Everybody was laughing of me because I had been so silly to be worried about that
but come on, it was getting late and we had no flashlight to light the way.
But suddenly something totally unexpected happened.
When we were getting out of the place around five giant dogs appeared to bite
us. I saw everybody’s face and they were really frightened. We were definitely
on thin ice so everybody started running away from there but I was so shocked
by the dogs that I couldn't move. My boyfriend told me from many meters away:
“take it easy! Everything is going to be okay” but I was still standing there
and I can’t understand why.
Fortunately nothing bad happened.
At the end of the day, everybody was eating humble pie
because they didn't believe in me. After all, I told them it was dangerous. It
was frightening but amusing at the same time.
Horrible Hair Cut!
I remember
that day clearly:
When I was a child my mother used to cut my hair at home
because she had a special pair of scissors. One day, my mother and I entered to
the bathroom to cut my hair and my little brother Max was watching us. When we
finished we forgot the scissors in the bathroom and then my brother waited that
we were far to closed the door. After a few hours my dad asked me: “Where is
your brother?” And, we started to looking
up him. Suddenly, I went to the bath and I found Max crying with the pair of
scissors in his hands and a horrible new hair cut!! He told me that he wanted
to cut his hair just like mum did with me because he thought that it would be a
piece of cake, but it was not. Despite my brother told me that I couldn´t say
it to my mother, I did it: “mum, Max barking up the wrong tree with his hair” and I
told her the whole story. However, my mum instead of get angry, laughed for 10
minutes! and after that, she said to my brother: ”you cannot cry over spilt milk, now you have to wait for a long time to cut your hair
again. Don´t worry honey, come with me and have a delicious ice-cream”
Lights off, nice guys...

This night was going to be a magnificent night because one of my best friends, Catalina, would celebrate her birthday. When we were in the bar we started to decorate it with ballons, serpentines and cotillion the place which she had reserved.

My anecdote: Funny bicycle crash
...One day I was so relaxed at home watching a new chapter of my favorite TV program, Dr. House, but my mom asked me if I could go to the supermarket for buying some bread. I decided to go, I remember that I thought "The faster I go, the faster I'll be at home again," so I took my brother's bicycle and I went. I was going on bicycle to the supermarket and suddenly someone appears in front of me in another bicycle and both couldn't stop, so we crushed, but she fell and I didn't. Luckily, she wasn't angry and I crack her up. But it was only the beginning because I still had to go to the supermarket so I took my bicycle again and I went on, finally I was there, I bought some bread and when I had to pay for it I didn't find the money. I remembered that I had the money in my hand when I crushed, so I had to back to square one and come back where the accident happened. Finally, I found the money in the street and I returned to the supermarket for paying my mom's bag of bread and like two hours late I came back home and I was beating around the bush, but I had to tell my mom what happened because it was too late when I came back.
It was embarrassing!
Dancing "La Cueca". (Anecdote)
My experience...
By Nicolás Calvo I.
Ok,
hey guys!, I hope you had spent an awesome and enjoyable national week. You
should see a lot of people playing, eating and most of all dancing. Of course,
it’s a date where people can have fun with their friends and family.
For me, I had fun as well, but there was a
little problem that I want to cope with this year; dancing the national dance,
“la cueca”. Therefore, I wanted to find out, but I am a little too bored with
dancing. Despite my problem, I wanted to break the ice before September 18th.
Indeed, one night I was watching some videos on tv, and I suddenly watched a
video of a couple dancing cueca, so I thought: “It is a piece of cake”. But as
you know, one thing is thinking the movements in your mind, but another
completely thing is the rehearsal with your partner.
At first, I was a mess trying to dance, I
mean, TRYING TO DANCE, because I didn’t know what I was doing. However, my mom,
wanted to help me improve. I think, one
of the mental things that you need to do to succeed in life, is let bygones be
bygones during the whole rehearsal, and instead of that, make hay while the sun
shines. You know what…I didn’t tell you why I was doing all these, is for one
just particular reason, my reputation to be a good dancer, no a GOGO DANCER, A
GOOD dancer. I just wanted to be good, not excellent but at least be
coordinated.
Where
was I…?
Oh,
yes, about my rehearsal.
Well,
at first, I was tired of dancing all day long every day, but in the end I
started to get used to do it, and I even liked it. Another thing that you have
to be aware of
is the smile on your face, the
movement of the feet, your outfit, your attitude, everything must be perfect,
so I put all my effort to do it well. Finally, I did it quite well, according
to my mom.
And
guys!, guess what, one night I was dancing and drinking with my friends (that
happened on September 18th), when suddenly someone asked me if I
wanted to dance cueca with her, so, as you may think, I said yes.
At
the beginning, I was anxious and my body was shaking, even I almost fainted,
but when the music turned on, I felt confident and very sure on my previous knowledge about my dancing. So I keep one’s fingers
crossed.
And
guess what????....
When
the music turned off, I heard a lot of applauses coming from my parents,
friends and even unknown people. After that, a big smile appeared on my face
and I felt so, but so grateful for the opportunity that I had that night. That
was one of the best nights that I had that week. This could probably sound like
the end of the story, but that was not the funny thing.
After
that I heard all the applauses and all that, magically I threw up on all my
partner’s outfit, feeling ashamed and embarrassed at the same time.
Thus,
the next thing that I have to learn and practice is NOT to drink before dancing.
No more television cameras !
That
day I said: from now on I will be much
more careful when I talk ...
I was in Santiago, walking on the Paseo Ahumada with my cousin and it was raining cats and dogs. Suddenly a guy with a microphone on and beside a cameraman appeared.
I was in Santiago, walking on the Paseo Ahumada with my cousin and it was raining cats and dogs. Suddenly a guy with a microphone on and beside a cameraman appeared.
I was shocked and couldn’t believe that I
would be interview and come out on television. I had been in front of a camera
before, but to a pilot that a group of friends wanted to send to national
television, and definitely it was not the same. I had been waiting for this
moment of "fame" all my life and it was time. It was raining a lot and I was messy,
but I didn’t care. I wanted to be on TV.
The interviewer before turning on the camera asks me: Do you watch the show "Dance Fever"? , I nodded and then the guy turns on the camera and asks: What do you think of the revolutionary Adriana Barrientos? .... I was nervous, first because I didn’t watch much the program, hopefully were a couple of chapters and second because a large group of people formed around me, but I said "This is a unique moment and I would not want to mess with my nerves", so I started with my answer and I said:
I think Adriana Barrientos is not a good example for society, is a vulgar woman who has no studies and lives of controversies and gossips. I think she's fake, arrogant and superficial.
Then the guy told me what do you think of her physically speaking?
" She looked much more decent before getting dozens of operations that she has been done, the blonde hair color makes her look ordinary and the elongated teeth make her look bad"
Finally the reporter says " Describe to Adriana in one word"
And I said Ugly .
At that time people around me started laughing and my cousin had a face of horror. She said with her finger "behind you" and at that moment I knew that Adriana Barrientos, the model almost two meters high was behind me.
It
was the typical joke in which you talk about a famous polemic and he or she is
hearing everything behind you....
This was one of the most
terrifying moments of my life, I was red
as a cherry and I could only think: Swallow
me land!http://my.brainshark.com/A-silly-story-504277220

Beloved

I will never put out of my head that day, I remember it as if it was yesterday, even worse, as if it had happened just a few minutes ago. This story will provoke different reactions on people, they can think it’s comical, unexpected, tedious, but... for me it’s still a far-fetched story.
The Physical Education class was over and we had to go to our next class, History, as I spent a long time on the shower and as the bell rang I couldn’t get my sneakers on, so I went upstairs with them on my hands. As the teacher was an extremely relaxed man, he didn’t mind if I didn’t use my sneakers during his class, so I didn’t get into them.
As the class never got underway because other classmates hadn’t shown up yet, I asked for permission for going to the bathroom and I went there leaving my marvelous black and white Converse-type sneakers on the classroom, however, when I got back they weren’t anywhere, they were faded away!!, I looked for them in everywhere even in the garbage trash, but they never appeared. They did a bang-up job hiding my sneakers - I thought in that moment-.
After spending a lot of minutes checking for them out, my teacher and classmates own up their crime! They had hidden my sneakers, but anyone seems to know where they were. Some of them broke silence telling that they were on the window, the teacher said they must have fell down to the first floor, others declared that they didn’t even take part in the “joke”. They dared to name it a “joke”, for me was the most pitiful crime that I have been part in.
Once and for all, they got me the left one back, and nobody had any idea of where the right one could be. I couldn’t make heads or tails of how 9 people can lose one sneaker. That’s how I lost one of my beloved sneakers, despite the fact that they were not pretty new, they together were my supreme and the best partners that I ever had.

My Anecdote
A couple of
years ago, more or less, one of my best friend and I went to the Mall in
Quilpué after a tedious day of school, because we needed to buy an
astonishing gift for our best friend who
was going to celebrate her 16th birthday the next day. She had always been honest as the day is long and such a splendid friend, that we had
to give her something that she really found spectacular, but we had to do it
very quickly because we thought that it was going to be a piece of cake, so we didn’t worry too much for the time remaining.
Well, we had been looking for this present for hours and we hadn’t had lunch yet,
so we started feeling hungry, almost starving, so we decided to take a break
and started thinking if we wanted a quick meal or something else. Finally, my friend decided to buy an ice cream before
we walk up the escalator to reach the third floor where we had to take it up a notch because that was our
last chance to find an astounding gift for her. But as we were into a cheerful
talking we didn’t notice that the escalator was going down and not up as we
thought it would be because it used to going up. So the thing is that while we
were talking, we had an awful and embarrassing fall but that’s not all: my
friend’s ice cream fall too and we ended on the floor covered with ice cream
with a laugh attack and with everyone staring at us and without a fabulous gift for our best friend..

Funny Story
I think I have never been in another embarrassing situation like this.
When I was in school, my father used to pick me up in his red car after classes every Friday to go somewhere and get fun, have a nice lunch time and spend time making funny activities. One of those fridays, I was waiting for him outside of my school with all of my other classmates and friends when suddenly I saw a red car on the road coming to me. When the car stopped I got into it, but I realized that it wasn’t my father’s car, It was the car of a completely stranger. He looked at me and he didn’t say anything, he just put a funny and disconcerted face that I think I will never forget. I still remember his huge eyes and his opened mouth trying to processing the situation. The only thing that I could say was “I’m sorry” and then I left and I was absolutely rushed.

English Culture II
Hello, everyone! We are Diego and Mariangela. For this second video, we interviewed:
Sebastián Olivares, Pablo Hernández, Belén Hidalgo, Ximena Ibaceta and Nicolás
Calvo at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso.

We find out that the most common influences that we receive from English culture are music, tea time and literature. English has become a global language because of the globalization. It's used in business and travelling.
It is important for us, as future teachers and English learners to understand this particular culture.
We enjoyed recording this video, so, we hope you enjoy watching it.

What does British culture means? Second Part
We are
Cristina Fuentes & Melanie Lizana and this is our second video about What
does British culture means? In this opportunity we interviewed some PUCV
students and some of our classmates because we want to know what kind of
concept they have about British culture. The following people are those that we
interviewed:
1.- Jimmy Vera 2.- Carlos Bello

5.- Eduardo Martinez 6.- Diego Mendoza
5.- Eduardo Martinez 6.- Diego Mendoza
In this video we can realize that music, tea and politeness are the main characteristics of British people according those students. But they are studying English and there are a lot of things that they still don't know like
us about the multicultural Britain.
So, How much do you think that you know about British culture?

Hello again! We are Camila Ayala, Paola Gutiérrez and Maryorie Salas and this is the second part of our video project: “What does English culture mean?” This video, like the first one, is based in short interviews with the same questions, but this time the interviewed were Sebastián Manriquez, Felipe Guerra, Sebastián Olivares, Camila Moya and Romina Herrera.
In this second video we noted that most of the answers have not changed very much. For example, most of the students still agree on various aspects of English culture especially in music, formality, traditions, and other.
Thanks for watching and we hope you like it.

Chilean Students opinions on the British.
Hello there, this is the second part of our interview about British Culture. For this video, we interviewed three classmates; Ximena Ibaceta (2011), Luis Salgado(2011) and Montserrat Abalos(2010).
They share some opinions but they differ in others, so without no more introduction, here is the video:

What do we know about the United Kingdom? Part 2
Hello! Here we’re again with our second video
about what do people know about Bristish culture and how they can relate it
with our Chilean culture. As in the previous video, the interviews shown in it
are from people from the ILCL, PUCV; also, it was recorded in the Sausalito
Campus.
This time, the interviewers are Patricio Villalón (2008), Pía Ulloa (2010) , Nicolás Calvo (2011 - and our classmate) and Victor Díaz (2011 - and our classmate). All of them are students from older generations; and Mariangela Sardes, she is one of our classmates and belongs to the 2012’s generation. What we want to see, with the answers given in this video, the different knowledge that the students have about the British culture according to the time they have spent at University.
We have to say that we were really surprised when we started to recollect all the answers and put them together. Honestly, we were expecting longest and more eloquent answers from the older students, instead of that thought, the student from the 2012’s generation seems to know more than most of the others.
Despite that, and relating this with the previous video, Monarchy, Royalty, The Queen, music (Queen and The Beatles), seem to be the most popular British icons that people can think about at the very first time, without thinking that much about it. And the relations that they could do were almost the same too, many of them related with British influence in history, literature, music, and in our University, in relation with the English Accent.
So, we can’t avoid asking ourselves, what happen with the students of English? Are we really interesting into know something about one of the culture whose language we are going to teach? We invite you to think about it, and learn a little bit more about this and other cultures related to the English language!
Finally! We hope you have enjoyed the videos!

What do people think about Britain?
This is the second part of the video about what do people think about Britain. We asked to classmates, of other promotions in the university, the same questions than the last vídeo and the most repeat answers were (in order from the most repeat to the less): Tea, The Queen and The Beatles. Also people think that British people are a little bit cold... And you, what do you think about Britain? What does it impress you?
