Since eighteenth century the concept of literature
has been changed until what we know as literature nowadays. If someone says Shakespeare,
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle or Jane Austen, we immediately imagine any adventure of
Mr. Holmes, or the more painful love story as Romeo and Juliet, and of course,
Who doesn’t want a Mr. Darcy for herself?
When someone says British Literature, immediately
comes to my mind Pride and Prejudice and of course, Mr. Darcy which at first sight
I really hated, but then my thoughts changes completely. I really like how Jane
Austen develops a love-hate relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth and also,
how the novel represents the culture in those ages.
One of the things that caught my attention
is the impact that those novels have in our thoughts of British culture, I
almost tend to stereotyped the society as how was in that book, but with a few changes
according to the present society. I mean, books in general give to the audience
an idea of the society, Who can a book affect your point of view in a whole
society?
I'm totally agree with you when you said that Jane Austen did a splendid work with the relationship between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, and I have to confess that I love the movie! Unfortunately I couldn't read the book, but I think it is amazing!

Through those elements we can share information. Also, we can learn; more specifically thanks to literature and that book "Pride and Prejudice" some people (and you, as you said in your post) have the opportunity to know how was the old society in Britain. But that is only a small characteristic part of the society in these years, and you realized of that until you read more, you learned more and finally you changed your mind putting together all the knowledge that you incorporated to create your own concept. So, I think truly in the fact of that a book can affect your point of view, whatever it can be because a book deliver to you some information and the author's point of view.
