Hello! We are Camila Ayala, Paola Gutiérrez and Maryorie Salas and we are presenting a video in which we try to solve the next question: What does English culture mean?
This video is based on short interviews on Wednesday 29 August in Sausalito campus to classmates of the English teaching program: Macarena Gonzalez, Javier Caceres, Felipe Gomez and Catalina Lagos, and college professors: Benjamin Carcamo and Ricardo Benitez.
We created five questions (What do you know about English culture?, What do you understand by British culture?, When I say British culture, What is the first word that comes to your mind?, Which features do you think British people have? and Can you think of any difference between the Chilean and British culture?) and make a small image recognition activity showing typical elements characterizing the British, in order to show what people think about their culture. We tried to ask questions that allowed respondents to answer from their own perspectives and using their cultural capital invested in this particular culture.
Before the interviews we think we will get very similar answers and indeed it did. With this we realized that what we think of British culture and is very widely known, that is, most people know the things that are shown on television or may be read in a magazine, but few know deeper data, which begs the idea that it is good to have a basic understanding of any other culture, but if you have a lot more information and handles much better. Now, a question for you... What do you think British culture is important?

Well, I really liked this video. I like the different questions because they, in somehow, covered many aspects that people may know or not about the British culture.
ResponderEliminarBut, what I really, really liked was the part with the pictures, it was really original and atractive to see, but I would like that all the people in the video, could have participate of it.
After I commented the video I kept thinking on it, more exactly, I though about the answers given, and as you mentioned they are the expected ones. Many of them were about an empire, The Queen, language influence, colonies, and that British culture is an important one.
ResponderEliminarBut, as it's obvious most of the people interviewed are just in their first year, so it's hard to find someone who knows a lot about British culture, unlike those people who have been more time at University - teaching or studying -, and who have been exposured to all this knowledge. So the difference is quite big and obvious between them.
